Located in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, Youth Art Exchange brings free after school art classes to high school students from all over the city, taught by practicing artists.
Sierra Reading was hired during the spring of 2014 to create and run the first ever Fashion Design course for Youth Art Exchange.
Every semester Sierra builds a curriculum of technical and conceptual learning, within the field of clothing and costume design. The work of the Youth Art Exchange Fashion Designers has been shown at the Children's Creativity Museum, Rood Division, San Francisco State, and SOMArts Center. During the Fall of 2016, YAX Fashion Designers designed a backpack for BetaBrand. The bag will be commercially produced within the Fall of 2018. On behalf of YAX Fashion Design, Sierra Reading has given many public lectures concerning the importance of student agency within the fashion industry.
